Boswellic acid is derived from the resin of the deciduous tree Boswellia Serrata L., Extract of Boswellia serrata have been clinically studied for osteoarthritis and joint function, particularly for osteoarthritis of the knee. A Boswellia extract marketed under the name Wokvel has undergone human efficacy, comparative, pharmacokinetic studies. Boswellia serrata is used in the manufacture of the supposed anti-wrinkle agent "Boswelox", which has been criticised as being ineffective. Burseraceae family, using the alcohol extraction method followed by concentration and drying. The result is a milk-white powder with a characteristic aromatic odor. 

It is used in rheumatic disorders; 
It has an antidiarrhoeal action, and the ability to inhibit 5-Lipoxygenase makes boswellia a powerful anti-inflammatory; 
Improving appetite, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, diarrhea, dysentery, pulmonary disease, and ringworm and in general weakness; 
Boswellia is also used to treat Ulcerative Colitis. In Ayurveda, Boswellia has been used as a treatment for rheumatism, nervous system disorders, and as a topical anti-inflammatory. 

Dosage For rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, 150 mg of boswellic acids are taken three times per day. For example, if an extract contains 37.5% boswellic acids, 400 mg of the extract would be taken three times daily. In the one clinical trial to date, people with ulcerative colitis used 550 mg of boswellia extract three times per day.
